Event Report: Reimagining Masculinity - Conversation with Shu Matsuo Post
Updated: Dec 18, 2020
On November 28, 2020, WomEnpowered International held an online event celebrating the launch of I Took Her Name: Lessons from My Journey into Vulnerability, Authenticity, and Feminism. WE Int. invited the book's author Shu Matsuo Post to explore his refreshing ideas on gender norms and equality.
The discussion revealed an authentic reflection on Shu's experience of taking his wife's name after his marriage, which deepened his understanding of gender roles and how they are socially constructed. Shu explained that these gender roles and biases were instilled among individuals since their early ages. Proudly identifying himself as a feminist, Shu elaborated how feminism liberates both women and men and how the idea of gender equality and inclusion informed his child-raising practices.
